Staying at home all day every day is new to all of us. It’s changed our routines and the habits we’ve built around how we eat and work out. While you may not be able to follow the same routines as what you’re used to, you can still create new routines and habits around healthy food and maintaining your fitness from home.

1. Stick to a consistent workout routine.

Keep your workouts consistent and take advantage of online virtual classes. Find a time of day that works best for you and try to work out at that same time each day. You can still get in a great workout with a variety of movements from your living room, backyard, or garage.

2. Curb snacking by changing your environment.

If you’re tempted to grab a snack every time you walk into the kitchen, then you can curb this urge by changing your environment. When working from home, set up your workspace someplace other than the kitchen. Sometimes we snack when we’re bored, so before grabbing a snack, take your dog for a quick walk or do some pushups, situps, or squats. Put some distance between you and the snacks, so you’re less likely to continue to snack throughout your day.

3. Drink plenty of water.

Make sure you’re staying hydrated throughout the day. Staying well-hydrated is good for your body and your mind and supports a healthy immune system. Make sure you’re drinking water with every meal and track your water intake throughout the day.

4. Go outside.

If you start to feel overwhelmed, take a break, and go outside. Take several deep breaths and go for even a short walk around the block. Changing your environment and getting some physical movement can be the re-set that your mind needs.

5. Create a meal plan and stick to a consistent schedule for meals.

Create a meal plan that includes wholesome and nutritious meals, and keep your fridge and pantry stocked with healthy food choices. When you’re at home 24/7, it’s tempting to wander into the kitchen and forage through your cabinets for extra snacks throughout the day. By sticking to your meal plan and schedule, you’re less likely to snack all day long.
